Sackville is a small town with 6,000 people in it. Mount Allison University is the main employer and every year over 2,000 students come here to study. It is considered a cultural capital for the area and there are many artists, artisans, and writers who live in this town. In the past, Sackville had two stove foundries -- The Enterprise and The Fawcett who employed most of the townspeople. My father, John Tapley, worked for 40 years in the Enterprise Foundry testing stoves and furnaces. Many wild ducks live in Sackville as there is a wetland park for them co-funded by the state of Delaware. Most of my relatives on my mother's side -- the Fishers-- lived in Sackville and worked in the foundry. It has often been said that Sackville is a small town with big city advantages. Convocation Hall, which is owned by Mount Allison, has hosted Gordon Lightfoot, Valdy, and many famous singers.
