I don't travel much, but the motivation for a trip to Ireland this past summer was one of an "ancestral pull". My great-great-grandfather emigrated from Cork County, Ireland to New Brunswick, Canada in 1838. In the 1850 census, he is found living in Portland, Maine. His name was Robert Good(e). The "e" was attached to the surname by some of the second generation. Our research into the origins of my ancestor, although scanty, verify him as Protestant. On my recent trip to Ireland I felt, so deeply, the struggles of the Irish people through my observations of the land and through the teachings of our fabulous guide/ driver.
