Argentina Independance Day Picnics

In the 70's, my father and his friend from Argentina, Hector Piovan, would host a summer picnic every year at our home on Inwood Place for all of the people living in the Buffalo area from Argentina.

Similar to our Forth of July, Argentinians celebrate their independance from Spain on July 9, 1816.

These were attended mostly by medical students from the University of Buffalo.

This is Hector attending to the BBQ.  It is another story but Hector is married to Lea, my mother's cousin.  My grandmother on my mother's side immigrated from Italy to Upstate NY but her sister immigrated to Argentina where she had Lea.  Lea married Hector and they eventually moved to upstate NY.

It was great fun for me and  my brothers and sisters to help with the preparations and participate in the festivities.
