Place and Time

Lillian was close to her father, and kept in touch with him throughout his life, but apparently she didn’t have any trouble speaking up in front of him. This photo shows the two of them on a pier at San Pedro, California, probably sometime around 1957. Her father inscribed the photo for her and wrote a story on the back: “Lillian and Dad at San Pedro, Cal.—You know, when I look at this picture it reminds me of the time I went into that big dance hall and you said, ‘Dad, are you sure that is what you went in there for?’ Remember.”
