Trouble, shown here with Lillian on Adak, was allegedly part malamute and part something else, but mostly he lived up to his name. He adopted John and Lillian during their stay on Adak, and when their son John Charles was born, he adopted the kid, too. His job was to keep little J.C. from wandering where he wasn’t supposed to go. John and Lillian didn’t have a playpen for the baby, so they put him down on a bearskin rug (it was Alaska) and set Trouble to watch him. Trouble took great pride in his ability to snag the wandering baby by his diaper or any convenient piece of clothing and haul him back onto the rug.
